How To Participate in a TournamentGeek Pool:
Participating in a pool is very simple. You only have to choose a display name for yourself and one team for each seed position in the tournament. That is, one 1st seed, one 2nd seed, etc.
1. Go to the "Add Pool Participation" page: You can do this by selecting "Your Pool Participation" on the "Home" page, then click the "Add Pool Participation" link in the upper left.
2. Type in the name of the Pool you wish to join. The pool host will have provided the pool name to you.
3. Select a unique display name for yourself in this pool. If you choose a name that's already in use for this pool, you will be told. Just choose a different name. You may wish to choose a name of reasonable length so the information pages are more compact.
4. Click "Join" and you're in. The new pool will be listed on the "My Pool Participation" page.
5. Select your chosen team for each seed position. You can make and edit your pool selections (and your display name) by clicking on "Edit" next to this pool on the "My Pool Participation" page, or by clicking "PoolDetails" and then "Edit" next to your name on the "Pool Details" page. As you adjust your selections, your best and worst case pool scores will be recalculated and displayed for you.
There are three seed-selection/edit modes available. You may switch among the modes whenever you wish and your selections will follow you. But they will not be saved until you click the "Save" button.
| DROPDOWN LISTS (Default) - contains a set of 16 dropdown selection boxes, one for each seed position. Each box contains the choices for that seed level. Choose one of them (or "-- Select a Team --") if you haven't decided yet. | RADIO BUTTONS - contains a table with a row for each of the 16 seed levels, each row containing a button for a team in each of the four brackets plus an "Unassigned" button, indicating you have not yet made a choice. This mode makes it easy to see how your choices are spread among the teams in the four brackets. | BRACKET - contains a representation of the tournament bracket, allowing you to immediately see your choices in the bracket context. As you make/edit your choices, the page will show which games you have a chance to win, which you are guaranteed to win, and which you cannot win. There is a row of buttons above the bracket view showing which seeds are still "Unassigned". |
NOTE: You can modify your team selections at any time until the tournament has officially started.
Before and throughout the tournament, you can see your bracket by clicking on "Bracket" next to your name on the "Pool Details" page - or by clicking "Bracket" on the "Your Pool Participations" page. Once the tournament has started, you can also view other players' brackets via the "Pool Details" page.
